I work with a lot of “successful” people who feel like frauds.
They’ve built impressive businesses, have all the external markers of achievement, but inside they feel empty, disconnected, running on fumes.
They might label it imposter syndrome. But honestly – I think it’s just “stinkin thinkin.”
We all get caught in negative thinking loops when we make mistakes, have communication breakdowns, or are just exhausted. I mean – we’re human!
Peak performance (which DOES include making mistakes) and burnout might look identical from the outside, but they feel completely different from the inside.
One is sustainable and energizing. The other is just beating yourself up inside while pushing pushing pushing through to get to the other side (other side of what?).
The executives who thrive long-term have learned to work from genuine vitality rather than forcing themselves forward through depletion.
HBR says, “Resilience is how you recharge, not how you endure.”
If this thing called business is a marathon and not a sprint, we’d better figure out how to nourish ourselves for the long-term, yes?
Warmly,
Angie
