I was walking in the forest with a tech CEO recently when he suddenly stopped and said: “I just realized this pace is unsustainable for my team…and for me.”
He stopped abruptly not because I gave him some brilliant insight, but because for the first time in months, he had space to actually feel something other than stress and urgency.
It’s such a heavy lift to try and innovate when you’re exhausted. Breakthrough thinking requires the kind of relaxed awareness that chronic overstimulation literally prevents.
The most successful leaders I know have learned the difference between productive intensity and unsustainable hustle. They can look identical from the outside, but feel incredibly DIFFERENT on the inside. And the consequences are incredibly DIFFERENT over the long haul that is business.
The question is whether you can maintain your pace without borrowing against your future self.
Warmly,
Angie
