This weekend, Nelson’s mom drove up to see her sister, who is 94 years old, in a nursing home, and her health is failing. This sister has lived a wonderful long life, though, and that’s been a gift.
On the drive up, Nelson’s mom’s car started having issues…the “ABS” light came on. As she was telling us about it, all I could think of was, “Why does the car have the acronym for ‘Always Be Selling’ on the dash lights?”
And then I had to laugh. See, “ABS” actually stands for “anti-lock brake system.” It’s testament to how long I’ve been a business owner and how much I invest in my skills as a business owner that I immediately thought, “Always be selling…!”
The author Daniel Pink has recently written a great book called To Sell is Human. Even today, I’m taking a 5-hour sales training class.
How about you? How are you investing in yourself as a business owner? As a person?
I’m big into personal development and personal growth. I invest in coaching each year to know myself better – not because I’m broken – but because the better I understand myself and my motivations (or lack of them, sometimes – heh), the better I am as a human being. The better I can be of service to my friends, my family, and my clients.
For the next 26 notes, I’m going through alphabet. Today’s was obviously “A.” I want to share my thoughts and ideas related to life and business and they won’t be strictly about getting organized. There’s more to life than that for sure! This seems like a fun way to do it. If you want to play along, send me your ideas for any and all letters.
But back to growth and knowing yourself. If there’s an area you *know* you could improve on, are you willing to invest in yourself?
I hope your answer is a resounding “Absolutely!”
Make some room,
Angie
P.S. I’m offering two-hour, in-person Make Some Room Rendezvous sessions through the end of the year. They’re suitable for just you and me or a small group or team. The investment is a mere $350.00. In just those two hours, I’ve had clients and teams make major progress on:
- “Why” they are in business
- Which systems would radically change their business for the better
- How to get out of overwhelm using the power of the word “No”
- How to eliminate the “making piles” habit
- Email overwhelm – and I teach how to banish it for good
- How to make more money (but not necessarily work more)
