A couple of weekends ago, Nelson and I had a little bonfire. We burned about 10 of my journals.
In my quest earlier this year to get rid of half of my stuff, those journals were something I felt compelled (obligated?) to keep.
They took up a fair amount of room in my small closet. I looked at the pile of them every day and fretted.
One day, I started flipping through them. I realized they were full of angst and old dreams and other stuff that wasn’t helpful today.
So, I gathered them up and we burned them.
And I don’t feel one ounce of remorse. In fact, it felt great to make the decision; to finally give myself permission to get rid of them.
I’m going to attack my boxes of pictures next. One box at a time.
And of course, this gets me wondering what you, gentle reader, are holding onto.
What is the thing (or pile of things) that you are reluctant to let go of? It isn’t serving a purpose anymore. It’s taking up space. And it doesn’t serve you.
That thing might be in your office or your house. It might be attached to your business or it might be personal.
Let it go.
Do it consciously and deliberately with a decision. Let the past remain in the past.
Make room instead for the future.
Angie
(PS: I was inspired by Danielle LaPorte to take this bold step. Thanks, Danielle for all you do, who you are, and what you share to inspire. I’m profoundly grateful.)
