Today I was hoping to make a grand announcement that my second book is published and ready for purchase!
And it is…except I’m having an issue with the size of the photos I uploaded for the “About the Book” section.
The photos are BIG. Like almost life-sized. My head is gigantic (but thankfully so is my smile). Heh. And I tried to fix them last night, but again, it didn’t work. So I’m going for round three this morning.
Aaargh. And my internal self is feeling incredible resistance to sharing the link because the page just doesn’t look good.
But it’s very nearly good enough. And it should be super-good-to-go by early this afternoon (so you’ll be hearing from me again!).
All that being said, it’s a lesson worth looking at.
This need for perfection.
I have it. And I call her “Type A Angie.” She bugs me. She really does. Mostly because she thinks without speaking, she can be a bully, and she can railroad over people’s feeling, ideas, and suggestions without a care in the world.
Unfortunately, she can also keep me from getting my good work out into the world. She’ll stop me from sending a big (scary) proposal, making that hard phone call, or including the link to my newest book until the “About the Book” page is perfect.
Do you suffer from the need to have things perfect before you get started, get going, or ship your brilliant work?
With my clients, I often see them using The Myth of Perfection to keep them from moving forward with action:
They didn’t stick to the Time Map we created for a day or two or a week, so they chuck it out the window.
Email got overwhelming and built up during a particularly busy time, so they quit trying to manage it.
Piles built up on their desks, so they just threw their systems for managing piles down the drain.
They didn’t make sales calls as we’d agreed to, so they just buried the list in a drawer.
This “all or nothing” mentality is a killer.
Today, I’d like you to think about one thing you’re avoiding doing because conditions aren’t perfect.
And, like me, I want you to do it regardless.
You’ll be hearing from me again this afternoon with the link to my book – whether the photos are fixed or not!
Reply to this email and tell me what one thing you’ll do today regardless of whether the timing or situation or circumstances are perfect.
Like my marketing mentor Jon says, “Just F*cking Do It.”
Sincerely,
Angie
P.S. Just a reminder! More than a few people have said, “Angie, I can’t buy your book because I don’t have a Kindle.” Well, happily, that doesn’t matter. I don’t have one either and I read Kindle books all the time. Amazon provides a free download of an electronic reader that allows you to download and read any Kindle book right on your computer. Sweet! No excuses now.
