This blog post title actually made my teeth hurt:
100 Tools and Tricks to Make You Insanely Productive
Seriously? I mean, how long would it take you just to read through the list? And what if even ten percent to those tools or tricks caught your attention? How long would it take you to try these out?
And while the title did make my teeth ache with overwhelm, I actually the title is right on – trying all these WILL make you insane.
Isn’t your world already over-saturated with information, ideas, and online productivity tools? Do you really want 100 more tools and tricks to have to try out?
Wait.
Did you just say yes?
Oh dear.
Let’s deconstruct this from an angle you might not expect.
Answer this question: what are you hoping to GET from these 100 tools and tricks? What problem are you hoping they solve for you? What are you hoping to feeeeeeeeel after you implement or try these 100 tools and tricks?
Go ahead…take a minute to think about it. Seriously.
I’ll wait.
What’s was your answer? You want…
- to get out of overwhelm
- to work more efficiently
- to be able to find your stuff
- to stop being frustrated and behind
- to make more money
- to reduce the clutter
- one magic bullet solution. Easy-peasy, right?
Let me be frank: these 100 tips and tools will not only not get you any of those things above, they may actually make your overwhelm, inefficiency, clutter, and frustration WORSE. Again, the word insane comes to mind.

Do less. And do it incredibly well. Focus on a few things rather than all things.

Know exactly what you want to accomplish. Choose one, maybe two tools that will help you do that. Use those one or two tools until they rock your world. Don’t deviate. Don’t cheat on your chosen tools with other tools…just to “see what else is out there.”
Ignore the other 99 tools and tricks. New stuff is always coming out. Always. Just because it’s new and shiny, doesn’t mean it’s better.
