I usually start my day by reading some inspiration material – it puts me a frame of mind of gratitude for my health, my clients, my business, and my life. I don’t spend a lot of time each morning, but three or four thought leaders start my day off right.
In a recent blog post, Seth Godin nailed it for me when he explained how a farmer who grows corn doesn’t have any illusions about what his role and mission are. “The farmer doesn’t avoid planting corn or procrastinate about harvesting corn. And he certainly doesn’t try to get his neighbor to grow his corn for him.”
When it’s time to plant, he does it. When it’s time to fertilize and water, he does it. And when it’s time to harvest, he does it.
Seth’s message? Make more decisions.
And I say make them faster.
- Delete those emails that are “interesting” but not necessary
- Toss the junk mail
- Make the new product
- Develop the new service
- Take the training
- Write the book
- Hire the assistant
- Have the conversation
You’ll get better and better at making decisions. You’ll learn to trust yourself, your “gut” more.
Sure, you’ll be wrong sometimes. To err is human, as they say.
And despite being wrong sometimes, you’ll get more done and feel better for it.
Many of my clients have done it – they’ve decided to toss, purge, delete, and decline. They’ve decided to simplify, systematize, and get it together.
It’s January and the time is now. Choose. Decide.
Sincerely,
Angie
