“You showing up in my inbox or private DMs and pitching to me is like you meeting me for the first time and sticking your finger up my nose.”
This statement came out of my mouth (not my nose – HA!) last week as I was working with a group on my marketing and messaging.
We were talking about “cold calling” — which is my LEAST FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN THE WORLD and chatting about how sometimes cold pitches do work.
Not in my world, people.
They don’t work coming AT me and they don’t work coming FROM me (mostly b/c I don’t cold pitch…because again LEAST FAVORITE ACTIVITY IN THE WORLD).
I love to grow my business by invitation and referral. You and I get to know each other, develop a relationship…or at least have a friendly series of conversations.
You start to think, “Hey, she might be able to help me with that one thing I can’t seem to figure out.”
We have another conversation. Then we decide if a proposal is right or not.
I’m never ever coming up to you and sticking my finger up your nose.
