Physician Larry Dossey coined the term “time sickness.” He describes how, even when stressful conditions are reduced or eliminated, people still continue to race against the clock.
It’s a learned habit, to be always on, to be always producing, to feel as if an invisible hand is creating pressure to DO.
Instead, the right answer might be: don’t just do something, stand there!
My work as a coach is anathema to the hustle and grind culture.
My emphasis is on wholeness and wellness FIRST.
My clients (almost all of them) already know how to make money. They are very financially secure, if not already very wealthy.
What they lack is TIME.
Time for genuinely effective self-care, which includes good sleep, adequate nourishment, and downtime in their schedules for actual leisure (including time to be bored).
I can see the heads of productivity and health hackers (and quite a few business coaches, too) exploding all across the world.
That’s fine with me.
Because I’ve seen how the go, go, go culture grinds people down to nubs. It tells them the story they aren’t doing enough and never will. It ties their humanity to their productivity.
And I call bullsh!t on the whole system.
Time sickness is a thing…and it’ll kill you.
There’s a different, better way (and it doesn’t involve blowing up your life or shunning money – because money is great!).
