“We imbue our things with meaning, but that meaning rests in us, not in the things themselves.” ~ Patti Digh
So often, I see people pursuing goals that include expensive things…
“If I could just afford the beach house…”
“That new Mercedes will make me so happy…”
“If I could just reach that next $5M…”
When we unpack these statements, though, there’s often a “lack” energy under them.
The new car will make you feel “successful” (though when you really dig in to define success, a car isn’t part of the equation).
The beach house will elevate your conversations at the company parties…but the truth is, you never take vacations because work is just too demanding.
Or you’ve already reached the $5M…twice…but you’re still not happy deep down in your Soul.
Digging down to find MEANING for ourselves – within ourselves – is the best work. Finding your way back to you what makes you feel happy, fulfilled, and deeply satisfied changes everything in life.
So often, we are just GRINDING. Going through the motions. Not examining WHY we’re going after the things we’re trying to get.
It’s a dangerous game….
Because at the end of the grind…all you’ve succeeded in doing is whittling yourself down to dust.
Maybe it’s time to play a different game.
If you have a sneaking suspicion the grind might not be working for you, PM me and let’s chat about it.
Warmly,
Angie
oPS: Sometimes getting clarity comes from unplugging. Here’s last chance opportunity to join me in Brevard, NC for a Mind and Body Wellness Retreat. The mountains are stunning, the lodge is gorgeous, and the food will be nourishing. You’ll have time to slow down and ponder what gives YOUR life meaning.
Warmly,
Angie
