“Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” —Mary Oliver
Each time I go to the woods, paddle a lake, or float a river, I find something to be astonished about.
And when I take women on river trips with Sylke Laine, the same happens in multiple ways over multiple days.
My two favorite photos from last year’s Salmon River Slowdown weren’t about rapids or action or big “wow” moments. Instead they were photos of two women who slowing waaaaaay down. One napped on the raft during a float section. Sun shining on her skin, face a picture of total relaxation. The other embraced a sacred yew tree and rested there, most likely feeling fully supported and embraced right back. The gift of deep rest and relaxation can be elusive but both women found it.
My favorite comment came from another woman who was quite simply ASTONISHED at how food just showed up without her having to think, shop, recipe plan, prepare, cook, or even clean up. This was an unexpected gift for this mom with a hubby and kiddos at home. Having that particular labor removed from her life for the week on the river brought her deep joy.
So, gentle reader, might you be ready to be ASTONISHED, too?
If so, I have a seat available for you on the upcoming wildHER Rogue River Adventure in Oregon, September 14 – 20.
