Do you know who Lizzo is? She’s the bad ass artist, creator, singer, dancer, musician.
I love her heart, her sense of humor, and her drive to perform.
I just finished watching her new series called “Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” where she’s looking for new dancers to join her team for a big U.S.-based music festival.
I was fascinated watching this show.
Let’s be clear…I am not a dancer nor do I aspire to be one.
But this show drew me in and held me.
Two pieces of advice I heard given to the dancers over and over again were:
- Be precise. Learn the moves, learn the choreography. SNAP, SNAP, SNAP.
- You need to increase your stamina. Sure, all the ladies trying out were “Big Grrrls” … AND they were expected to have stamina. Staying power for the entire 90 minute shows. They were expected to be ON.
It occurred to me this quiet, rainy Saturday morning that I can apply these concepts to my own work.
I have had some BIG wins in the past year, and even BIGGER ones the last four months.
And I relaxed.
It was subtle, but looking back I can see where the coasting started to happen in mid-April. I was less “in.” Less “on.”
[Is there a lesson in less “on”…I think so…]
I participated in a group coaching session about a week ago that got me UNSETTLED. It shined a light on my imprecise actions. My lack of focus. My need for MORE stamina.
Staying power is so important in coaching and LIFE. And I think I got the ratio out of balance…too much pushing, not enough flow. Too much WORK, not enough restoration.
I have some choreography to practice. SNAP. SNAP SNAP.
And I have some stamina to build.
Huh.
Turns out I might be a dancer after all.
Warmly,
Angie
P.S.: How do you build your stamina? What are your practices? And how do you keep your finger on the pulse of your choreography? SNAP SNAP SNAP
