“Integrity is the cure for unhappiness. Period.” Martha Beck
The brilliant Martha Beck (one of my long-time mentors) explains that integrity means you are wholly yourself and all aspects of yourself are harmoniously aligned.
She’s written a comprehensive book about this called “The Way of Integrity.”
What does being out of integrity look like?
- Disagreeing, but not speaking up
- Feeling persistent unhappiness in one area of our lives (or many)
- Hiding your true needs, desires, activities
- Knowing something is right but not saying so
- Choosing actions that harm ourselves
If you are feeling unhappy (acutely or chronically), chances are some part of your life is out of integrity.
What’s the first step in moving back towards peace and wholeness?
Tell the truth (words, actions, deeds).
It changes EVERYTHING (and for the better).
Warmly,
Angie
PS: I’ve found an excellent place to speak the truth…out in the forest among the trees. If there’s an uncomfortable truth in your life that needs to be spoken, consider signing up a “An Outside Perspective” Walk with me.
