Then I will vs. Now I will (a.k.a. Making a decision)

I’m big on making decisions. And at a recent networking meeting full of smart folks, a guest speaker spoke about that very thing

I was particularly struck by his concept of, “Then I will” vs. “Now I will”

Here’s what “Then I will” sounds like:

  • Once I make a certain revenue goal (or have a certain amount of savings), then I will do “something” different.
  • I want to write a book, but I don’t have time. Maybe once I get my office organized, I can find time to write.
  • Once I document all our systems and processes, then my company will be humming like well-oiled machine.
  • As soon as I’ve saved enough for retirement, then I will move to the beach. (Or the mountains…ahem!)
  • As soon as I know enough, then I will start my own business.
  • Once I’m mad enough, I’ll quit.

What if, instead, you seize the moment? Now I will…

  • Today I will take one concrete action step towards improving my revenue (rather than waiting until later).
  • I will make time to write 500 words today, every day, in order to get my book done.
  • I realize systems and processes are important – and how can I ensure that today we are taking even one step towards improving both processes and team work?
  • Screw retirement – I’m moving to the beach NOW!
  • I realize I’ll never know enough – and I’m starting my business now. Today.
  • I’m inspired, capable, and ready. I’m quitting and choosing to do something different instead.

Can you feel the difference between those two lists? The first is future-focused and based on ‘something’ happening. The second is ‘now’ focused and places the responsibility and choice on YOU to make it happen. It’s all about making a decision.

I love the second list. I focus on the second list. My life is modeled one day at a time around the second list.

How about you?

Make some room,

Angie

P.S. A Make Some Room Rendezvous session is a perfect opportunity to discover where you can live in the now to create a happier life and a more successful business. This is you making a decision to act now.be bold
