We are all two-faced – we’ve got a public face and a private face.
It’s something I’m pondering a lot recently.
I definitely have this public face – coach, writer, thinker, business woman, sometimes speaker. This part of me is organized, focused, and serious.
Then there’s the private face. She’s loud, sings songs to her kitties, burps like a champ, and prefers to curl up in the quiet with a cup of coffee and good book. And go on adventures where she doesn’t shower for days.
I try to show both faces to people (well, maybe the burping and not showering parts should really remain private).
I know people show their public faces…and there’s suffering behind the masks. Feelings of unworthiness. Financial and relational messes. Upheaval. Grief. Loss.
I’m learning the way to live more fully with just MY face is to meet all my parts – good, bad, and ugly – with compassion.
I’m learning how to understand my parts through the lens of my experiences and the stories my parts created to make sense of life.
Why is one part of me so rigid and organized? How is this good? How is this a coping mechanism to avoid being wrong, or shamed, or judged?
Why is one part of me so silly and carefree? How do parts of me judge that frivolity and unrestrained joy?
Can I accept all of me? Deeply and truly LOVE all of me? Can I hold my own hand, gather up and hold my own power center, and extend grace and love to others in the same way?

You never know what strife someone else is going through. What demons they are wrestling with. How they are silently suffering on the inside.
Meet yourself with compassion. Practice merging your two faces. This is how beauty pours forth from our open hearts.
