Over the weekend, Nelson and I saw two movies. The first was the magnificent Beasts of the Southern Wild. The second was the fantastical story Life of Pi.
Both movies left me nearly speechless. After watching Life of Pi, I couldn’t talk for several hours because I was so touched by the story. I just kept feeling like I would burst out crying if I tried to talk (and I’m not big on crying at movies. Well, not often anyway).
These movies pierced me straight through the heart because they touched on the human condition that everyone shares – fear – and facing it head on. The rich storytelling in both of these movies just got me. POW!
Now that I’ve recovered and have been able to put away the Kleenex, I’ve been thinking. A lot.
Thinking about the stories we tell ourselves. The stories you tell yourself.
It’s ironic, because many times the stories you tell yourself aren’t all that nice, are they?
- I’m unorganized
- I’ll never figure this out
- I can’t seem to pay attention to details
- I’m not smart enough to do this or that or the other thing
- They might not like me
- I might do it wrong
In the spirit of these two magnificent movies and the twists they bring to life, I’d like to propose you begin telling yourself a different story.
One that says, “Even if I am a little disorganized, it doesn’t make me a failure.”
One that shouts, “I will figure this out – one moment at time, one day at time.”
One that whispers, “I am smart and capable.”
What in the world does this have to do with you and your business, you might thinking?
Everything.
I know this because I’ve been having a lot of conversations with clients about their internal critics (I call them gatekeepers). It sounds very un-business-like, but in reality, this is a really important topic. Those little (or big) gatekeepers keep us stuck.
When you change the story about your gatekeeper, you can change anything. That’s when the magic happens.
And surprisingly (or not), this will definitely be part of January’s retreat.
To that end, I invite you to click over to read the full details of the retreat invitation. Once you have looked over the page, don’t hesitate to reach out to me so we can discuss if this retreat is right for you.
If you’d like to change your story to one that includes you being fabulous, successful, and yes…even organized, then click over to find out more.
Sincerely,
Angie
P.S. If you know of a business owner (or two!) who want a different relationship with their business for 2013, please share this invitation with them.
