Seriously, when you think of getting organized, are you trying to drink from the proverbial “firehose?”
It’s something I’ve talked to potential clients about a lot over the last couple weeks.
First, what do these conversations sound like? Imagine yourself saying:
- I’ll just spend all day Saturday going through my mail, doing my filing, and cleaning up my office.
- I’ll spend the next three days going through my clutter and throwing stuff away.
- I’ll just stack all this crap together and get to it one day next week.
- (Or with a To Do list) I’ll just bang it out one day next week.
And this conversation usually ends with the statement, “It’ll be fine.”
Yikes!
There are SO many reasons this act of trying to “drink through the firehose” doesn’t work.
For instance, actually carving out a whole day is something you complain you can’t do now. And you actually believe you’ll (1) find a whole day and (2) use it to sort papers and get organized?
Riiiiiiiiight.
But wait!
Sometimes, you actually do make the time. Hallelujah!
And what happens?
Within the space of an hour, you become tired, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Very quickly following that, you abandon the project entirely in favor of checking email, get distracted by some nearby shiny object or binging sound, or you suddenly remember an urgent task that must be done immediately (like vacuuming, running errands, or mowing the lawn).
Seth Godin calls this the No Problem Problem – creating a problem where there was none in order to avoid the work at hand.
Very clever, gentle reader!
Honestly, aren’t you ready to put the “I have got to get organized” story to rest?
As I’ve said in the past, this is where I come in.
I bring the gift of time.I bring flexibility, hope and optimism for getting out of overwhelm. Add to that a well-practiced outcome (we find more TIME. And money, too, but that’s a topic for a different post) and suddenly you’re no longer wishing to be organized…
You just ARE.
And that frees up significant time, energy, and enthusiasm for other things, right? And you so get to decide what those other things are.
You’re ready. I know it. Just reply to this email and tell me so. I’ll reach out to you to handle the rest.
Sincerely,
Angie
